LICENSING GUIDE

Arizona — Aesthetician

Arizona’s aesthetician license covers cosmetic skin care, including cleansing and beautifying treatments, eyebrow and eyelash services, and removal of superfluous hair by statutorily permitted methods. These services are regulated as aesthetics when performed for cosmetic purposes.

Renewal Period: 24 months

Arizona personal licenses expire every two years on the licensee’s birthday. An initial license may be valid for less than two full years because it expires on the licensee’s second birthday after issuance.

School Pathway

Training Hours: 600

Complete at least 600 hours in an aesthetician course at a Board-licensed school and pass the required written and practical examinations. Applicants must also satisfy Arizona’s age and education requirements.

Apprenticeship Pathway

Arizona also recognizes a U.S. Department of Labor-approved or Arizona Department of Economic Security-approved aesthetics apprenticeship program that includes at least 200 hours of infection protection and law review instruction. The statute does not state a single total apprenticeship-hour figure.
